How YOU Can Help |
Here are some easy changes that you can make in your daily life that can help planet earth: |
Number 1: Reduce what you buy, Reuse what you have and Recycle what you can. Number 2: Read, listen and learn about the environment. Number 3: Turn off lights when you leave the room, and unplug items that are not in use like hair dryers, microwave ovens, printers, all all those chargers for phones, etc. Number 4: Use power strips or surge protectors to turn off plugged in items completely. Number 5: Investigate what Green things your town is doing - do you have a Nature Center? Do you have a townwide clean up day? Is there an animal park that could use a volunteer nearby? Number 6: Look around your school. Do you have recycling bins in the lunchroom? Do you have paper recycling bins in each classroom? If not, make some suggestions to your teachers and administrators. Number 7: Ask your parents to stop letting their cars idle. Number 8: Start a garden. Number 9: Research composting and consider starting a compost pile (this requires knowledge to do safely). Number 10: Plant a tree - it will clean the air for you. Number 11: Think of a eco project that you would like to see in your school or town and ask for help from teachers, student council and parents to hold a fundraiser to accomplish your goal. Number 12: Cut all the rings of those plastic six-pack soda holders. Small animals and birds can get those wrapped around their necks. Number 13: Recycle ink cartridges and computers. Ink cartridges can often be refilled and computers can be donated to schools and organizations. With your parents' permission, Search the internet for locations. Number 14: Conserve water. Don't let the water run while you brush your teeth. Number 15: Organize your family to do large loads of laundry instead of small ones. This will save energy and water. Number 16: Eat whole fruit instead of drinking juice - less packaging! Number 17: Ask your family to buy locally grown produce when possible. This saves the energy of shipping foods across the country. Farmers' markets are a great place to shop. You can support your local farmers, ask them questions about how the food was prepared/grown and you'll get some of the best tasting fruits and veggies out there! Number 18: Walk or ride a bike instead of taking the car to your activities. Number 19: Pay attention to the news and see what businesses are going GREEN! Number 20: Consider starting your own environmental club! HAVE FUN BEING GREEN! |
